Ride Story Studio privacy notice

Development-build notice: this local prototype runs on the user's own computer. Before a public commercial launch this page must be replaced with the final operator identity, contact details, lawful-basis information and any processor/subprocessor information required by UK GDPR/GDPR.

Strava data used

If you choose to connect Strava, Ride Story Studio authenticates you using Strava OAuth and accesses only the connected athlete's own cycling activities. Data used can include activity title and date, route/GPS points, elevation, distance, elapsed/moving time, start/end location information and the primary activity photo where Strava makes one available.

Why it is used

The data is used only to let you select one of your rides and create a personalised Ride Story print. This development build does not use Strava data to train or operate an AI model and does not intentionally disclose your Strava data to another user.

Where it is held

OAuth tokens are stored locally in ~/.ride_story_studio/. Strava ride details used by the browser are session-only. Design preferences can be saved locally, but v0.11 intentionally excludes Strava-derived ride data from saved project JSON. Any route-derived geocoding cache is transient and automatically expires within seven days.

Map preview infrastructure

The development preview currently loads vector map tiles from OpenFreeMap/OpenStreetMap-based services. Because the visible map area is fitted to your selected route, those tile requests can reveal an approximate geographic area to the map infrastructure provider. A public launch must either document and contract for this processing as a compliant subprocessor arrangement or move to self-hosted/controlled map infrastructure.

Withdraw consent or delete data

You can disconnect from Strava in Ride Story Studio or revoke access from Strava's My Apps page. Use Delete Strava data in Ride Story Studio to delete locally held Strava tokens and route-derived cache data; the app displays a deletion confirmation. If Strava revocation cannot be confirmed, the app tells you to revoke the app from Strava My Apps as well.

Access to your data

Your original Strava data remains available to you through Strava, including Strava's own data-export tools. Ride Story Studio's development build does not create a persistent archive of your Strava activities.

Strava Usage Data

Strava may monitor and collect usage data relating to use of its API and may use that usage data as described in the Strava API Policy.

Contact and production launch

A public launch must provide a named operator and support/privacy contact here before accepting customers.
